As usual there are 3 essays. Here are the essay topics

Changes in UK Visa norms

UK Government has changed certain Visa norms ( implemented in 6 Apr 2012) for students which might make studying/ working in UK more difficult.

Major changes

Students from outside the European Union (EU) who wish to stay on in Britain after completing their studies will be required to have a firm job offer of a minimum £20,000 a year from a government-approved employer if they.

UK government freezed the annual cap on highly skilled workers for two years. The cap is 20,700 till 2014.

My interview was scheduled at 8 in the morning at Nehru Place greens.

After a brief introduction by admission head the GD started. The topic was ”Why Only Cricket Is So popular and not hockey”. It was a normal GD with everyone participating equally.

The Interview started after 10 minutes as they were analysing my profile.

Interview Panel had 3 member (2 ladies and a gentleman)

Interview panel :-Welcome . Have a seat. How would you explain to your grandmother the work you do.

Me:- (I was startled as in no introduction .. nor the usual questions) . well…. i mean…

Interview Panel:- Ok.. Consider me as your grand mother and tell me.

me:- Well my grand mother does not know English so i will have to speak in hindi. And I expalined my work by giving an analogy of washing clothes (Satisfied)

Interview panel :- Very good. Now Explian to me as if i were a layman .

Me:- Explained

Interview panel :- Are you in Finance (ILFS- Financial Giant ) – Who Is the CEO.

Me : Answered.

Interview Panel:- Tell mw something about your International Experience.

Me:- Expalined - What difficulties i faced and how i dealt with it . Here I explained the reason to do the MBA

Interview Panel :- Ok What will you do if your senior comes in way of your work and things get struck?

Me:- I will discuss with him my views and if things doesnot improve , will report to the senior management about the issue.

Interview panel:- How important is decission making in professional work

Me:- Explained. But the panel was not satisfied. He gave a long explanation and i gave a nod.

Interview panel::- Why GLIM ?

Me:- ROI, I year course, Mba In India etc..

Panel:- Whr do u see 5 yrs down the line ?

Me:- In a good Management Consultancy Firm As a consultant.

Panel:- Thanks. Any questions ?

Me:- Thanked everyone.

HEC Paris Interview Experience 2012-2013

Profile: 4 yrs Oil and Gas Sector, GMAT : 730

Interview 1

Venue: Hyatt, New Delhi

Details:

Interview happened around 5′o clock in the Hyatt Hotel (Coffee house area). Interview was very relaxing. The interviewer (A1) was an HEC alum working in an administrative office in New Delhi. An official 10 minutes presentation is compulsory. Topic can be anything. Mine was about Energy Scenario in Developing Economies. Whole interview revolved around it. The A1 asked me about why I want to do MBA. He questioned me very strongly on my answer. Finally he got convinced. That was the only general question. Rest all was from my field (I work in Oil & Petrochemicals) and my presentation. It was a discussion sort of thing. But I1 was having a very good knowledge about my field. One has to be very prepared about everything. Meantime, coffee was served and I got relaxed. Then there were to n fro questions. I enquired about his own experience which he presented with relish. He was quite satisfied with the knowledge of my field. That is the most important thing. Unlike other B schools, HEC has a very different way of judging the candidates. You shud have a thorough understanding of what happening around you and how it is and going to effect ur future perspectives. Concentrate heavily on the presentation subject.

Interview 2

Venue: Accenture Office, Cannuoght Place, New Delhi

Details: This time the interviewer, an HEC alum, (A2) was from my own field working with Asian Division of Accenture Energy. I gave the same presentation. Only this time the questions were stronger but he understood the content in a better way. A2 concentrated heavily on presentation skills. He even pointed out certain discrepancies in the data and asked for further corroboration with the sites/articles from where i took those figures. The presentation and the questioning per se took around one hour. Many a times, A2 insisted upon solutions over the matter i presented and there was a long discussion. After an hour, he told me the interview is over. He then asked some normal questions. Why MBA, future plans, strengths, and why HEC but he never cross questioned me on these.

So overall, presentation is what that matters. While presenting, accept their views. Dont be too headstrong about what u have written. HEC specifically pick interviewers from ur own field. They have a good knowledge and just test urs. Normally, HEC gives a very few interview calls and it seemed from the interviews that selection % is around 75-80. One more thing, HEC provides a window to choose ur interview date. Once u call the interviewer, they may call u the very next day and they are very particular about it. So better prepare ur presentation before givin them a call.

Tuck Interview Experience/ Questions 2012

4. Tell me about an incident when you went beyond what was established
5. Tell me about an incident when you failed
6. Why MBA
7. Why Tuck
8. Convince me that you can live in a village like area (Tuck is in such a place)
…so on. Questions similar to B-school essays

Set-III, personalized questions, generated during course of conversation.
1. Why not MBA from India, IIMs
2. Why not take up your business idea now. ( my long term goal is entrepreneurship)
3. Why not change a job now to get more exposure
Basically, grilling into my answers.

Overall, the guy was very cool and logical.
